The BIAN Working Group represents a distinct community working on specific industry banking business scenarios. The primary activities of a Working Group include identifying business needs, gathering business requirements, developing consensus on best practices and defining specifications.

BIAN Working Groups collaborate, sharing knowledge and experience around service-oriented architecture (SOA) for the banking industry with a current focus on core systems. These Working Groups focus on defining services within an agreed overall common services landscape.

An Architecture Committee ensures that the Working Groups adopt a common SOA-based approach and that the resulting specifications are recorded in such a way that they can be used to develop and implement banking enterprise services in the most efficient way.
